Cheese is a very fragmented category in Greece and one with in which huge numbers of small-scale companies claim marginal value shares, operating mostly on a regional basis, while artisanal products also account for a significant proportion of sales. Of the big players, the leader in 2016 was FrieslandCampina with a value share of 7%. The company produces and distributes the brands Nounou, Milner and Fina.

Below: Railways in South Greece – Nafplion – Peloponissus. Unknown to many people: You can travel very safely in many areas in mainland Greece by train! The railways of Greece have a history which began in 1869, with the completion of the then Athens & Piraeus Railway, with parts of it also becoming the second-oldest underground metro system in the world. The running of the Greek railways is split between the Hellenic Railways Organisation (OSE), which owns and maintains the infrastructure, and TrainOSE, which runs the trains on the network.

Below: January in Nymfaion Greece. Woman plays with local dog(s) in snow. Nymfaion is located in north Greece.  Nymfaio, or Neveska as it was called then, was settled around 1385 by Vlach travellers, who fled into the mountains after heavy battles with the Ottomans. The fighters of Neveska capitulated conditionally: they remained armed and autonomous, directly ruled by Valide Sultan (the mother of the Sultan), and paid reduced taxes. Until the early 17th century, their main source of income was raiding the estates in the plains. Around 1630, the village became a centre of silversmithing, known all over Macedonia for the next three centuries.
